Postcard of No.3 Compartment Boat Hoist - "Situated at entrance to Aldam Dock. Constructed in 1900 by Armstrong Whitworth & Co at cost fo £15,000. Height 92' 6". Lifting capacity 52 tons using hydraulic power. Part of integrated coal transportation system unique to Goole. Developed by W H Bartholomew, Engineer to the Aire & Calder Navigation Company. System in operation from 1864 until 1986. Photograph taken by Norman Burnitt, Central Studios, Goole, Shows 'Tom Pudding' in tipping position and coal trimmers aboard South Eastern Gas Board ship known as 'flat iron.'.
